The chair project is coming along very well; you can tell by the amount of mess in the Art Room. We are working on it through this week, and are finishing up by next Tuesday, January 21, which is the last day of classes for the semester. Also due on that day will be your take home quiz on the chair project. Quizzes will be distributed in class, but you may also download a copy from the homework page on this website. Please note that you need an image of your chair, whether it is a printed out photo from your phone or a fairly accurate drawing (I am happy to supply paper…). And you need to get the number of the chair that inspired you from the "Wall O' Chairs".

Everyone who wished to have their collage grade revised was asked to put it in my basket by December 20. Those who did so received grade revisions for the project, based on the additional work that they did. This grade is your interim progress report average.
I hope that the Holiday break has been good for everyone. We are continuing to work on the chairs; you should be well into the creation of your chair's structural addition, and have started thinking about the decorative aspects. We will go into greater depth with those next week. Remember that there are essentially two weeks left to the marking period, so make those plans happen!
Your quiz will be offered the week of Jan 13-17, as a take home quiz, due on January 21. Remember that your MET paper is due next Monday, January 6th in the Art room. Based upon the stories I read while grading your collages, I suspect the papers will be good reading as well, and I am looking forward to them. All the juniors did very well during the first marking period. Congratulations. Samples of the origami fold design name books are now in the art gallery. We are finishing up a narrative myth collage, which will be the basis for the interim average. Students will receive their MET writing project assignment this week.
The educators at the Whitney Museum of American Art were so impressed with our group of Juniors, when we visited on November 19th, that I received an email thanking us! Everyone's books are coming along nicely; many students are in the process of assembling them at the moment. This coming week is a busy one: quiz, homework, projects to be finished. Make sure you make the time to get it done by Friday. The art room will be open til 4 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Just a word to the wise: don't work to be done until friday unless you have class then.
Don't forget to get in your field trip permission slip! We want everyone to be able We are in the seventh week of the marking period, and in the midst of working on the origami-fold name books. Next week, you will learn how to make the cover and assemble the book. Books must be finished by the end of the following week, on November 8. Remember, projects may not be carried over to the next marking period.
We have reached the half-way point in the marking period, and everyone should have received interim marking period reports. (You averages are also posted on Jupiter Grades.)
The folders are finished; they demonstrate an impressive array of interests and ideas, and some wonderful responses to the assignment given. Students were asked to create an image using colored pencil, marker, texture plates, stencils and freehand drawing. The image had to provide a rich visual experience, and allow the viewer to learn something about the student. Please look at the Art Gallery for the results. Students are now working on designing the pages of their origami name books, exploring the visual language of design, specifically principles of pattern, rhythm, emphasis and contrast. During the week of October 21-225, student will bring home a permission form for the Junior Class Field Trip to the Whitney Museum of American Art. Please fill it out and send it back to school as soon as possible. Everyone is getting their "feet" wet making their storage folders. So far some good ideas are emerging.
